The Four Seasons, Tribute to Alphonse Mucha: Spring

Posted by Nicole Speer on

The first of our four part series. Shot during the final days of spring at Thompson's Park, in Calgary.

The series is inspired by the creative work of turn-of-the-century artist Alphonse Mucha. His ability to create whimsical pieces that perfectly marry humanity to our greatest influence, nature. He accurately depicts our shared love for our living environment and enforces our desire to preserve its beauty. We are fortunate enough to live in a part of the world where we get to immerse ourselves in each season, to take part in the pleasures every change has to offer with each passing day and month we witness a dramatic change much alike to birth and death.

Our visual goal was not to put our model in a setting, but to create a feeling that the model and setting are intertwined and one could not be without the other.

For the season of spring we focus our colour scheme in soft pastels and bright pops of colour. Our model’s porcelain skin couldn't be a better canvas, untouched by the sun and delicate with pink undertones, enhanced by Monique Of Jerome Salon with beautiful soft pastel pink hair.

Stylist Megan (also of Jerome Salon) created soft tousled curls which polish off her perfectly surreal coif.

We wanted to create an ethereal “lit from within” kind of glow so we opted out of anything too chunky or sparkly and went for a luminescent shimmer, applied anywhere the light might hit. Instead of using a classic contour shade we used a cool-toned light matte purple to maintain our colour themes and dusted a generous amount of dusty rose pigment on to the apples of the cheek. Her captivating eye colour is enhanced using minty greens, sky blues, pastel purples, and dusty pinks. To create an exaggerated shape we pulled the shadows and liner out and up on the outer area of the eye, and down towards the nose on the inside corner achieving an elongated effect. Paired with subtle glitter eyebrows and pastel creamy finish lipstick.

Wardrobe was curated by our model herself, (putting that wedding dress to use a second time!) and her flower crown was created by WorldTown Cosmetics Co. Below is a complete list of products used, as well as links for our creative team.
